Cascade Montana
Cascade Montana is a small farming and ranching community located between Great Falls and Helena at the mouth of the Missouri River Canyon. This area has unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation, including wildlife viewing, fishing, and hunting.
Here the craggy mountains of the Missouri River Canyon meet the northern prairie. In Cascade, you’ll find a grocery store, a gas station, a couple lively bars, a post office and some fun folks. The Angus Bar, located just off the First Street, is a popular gathering place for locals and visitors. The Homestead is restaurant and coffee shop with great food, friendly service, and a homey atmosphere. The Driftwood Bar offers food and fun located off from First Street, the main drag in town. Less than 700 hardy folks call Cascade home.
Access the river for fishing at the Pelican Point or Cascade fishing accesses. This section of the river is just downstream from the Missouri River Canyon. Unprotected, the wind can blow hard here when windy. For a ‘big fish’ float, try Pelican Point to Cascade. Here you’ll find some great water and the legendary ‘Pig Pen’, a long back eddy along the highway. The scenery along the river is memorable. Fields of deer, pelicans fishing, and long vistas east.
Just north of Cascade, you’ll find the Ulm Buffalo Jump. Native Americans would drive bison uphill to cliffs from which they would plunge. The site has been preserved and features an interpretive center and walking paths. The area is surrounded by prairie and the big sky of Montana. Visit and experience life of the Native American.
